Grooming - Skin Care for Men

Healthy and glowing skin is indicative of good health and fitness. Skincare is not a part of just looking good. It is also a part of health and grooming. Healthy skin depends a lot upon the nutrition that you give to your body. The cosmetic products you use also influence skin quality.

There is a spurt in the market for skincare products for men. Grooming has become essential as it affects our confidence and morale. If you are wondering about how to take care of your skin, here is a ready reckoner.

Know your skin

The foremost step is to get well acquainted with your skin type. Your genetics and the geography you live in will affect the kind of skin you have. Generally, skin falls under three categories - Dry, Oily, and Combination. Your skin might also be sensitive or normal. Your skin type will have an influence on the various foods suitable for you.

All your skincare products that include soap, face wash, perfumes, and deodorants should be as per your skin type. Due to testosterone, men tend to have oilier skin than women. If you have oily skin, you should always use skincare products that help in oil control. If you have dry skin, you must keep it moisturised. Combination skin needs different treatment than dry and oily skin. Using a chemical-free approach is advised for everyone, especially if you have sensitive skin.

Everyday hygiene

Skincare, like any other part of grooming and fitness, is a part of your daily hygiene. It should not be taken as something to be done when you are facing serious skin issues. Here are some hygiene habits you should follow.

  • Bathe daily. In winters or cold weather, do not bathe with hot water as it may dry your skin. Lukewarm water is best for bathing.
  • Shave as required.
  • Change your inner-vest and underwear every day. Do not use them more than once before washing. It may cause rashes, jock-itch, ringworms, and allergies.
  • Do not use the same towel for more than three days at a stretch.
  • Take care to wear well-washed clothes. Any soap residue might cause skin irritation.
  • The skin undergoes oxidative stress. Free radicals are formed due to pollution, UV rays, or smoking. Use antioxidant serum from a good skincare brand. Use a moisturizer with at least SPF 30. It will protect your skin from the harsh sun.
  • If you have cracks in your feet, buy pumice stone for exfoliation and then apply petroleum jelly. If the sole cracks are deep, wear socks afterwards.

Skincare and Food

Food is vital for your health, skin, and hair. Take nourishing food, including vegetables and fruits. You should avoid oily and fried food as much as you can.

Staying hydrated is another important aspect. Well-hydrated skin looks wholesome and supple. Drink the required amount every day. It will keep your skin glowing. Water-rich foods are retained in the body for a longer time. Increase the intake of watermelons, cucumber, tomatoes, and carrots. Food like flax seeds, walnuts, and olive oil is rich in Omega 3 fatty acids. It helps in moisturizing your skin.

Skincare and Clothes

The clothes you wear also affect the skin. You should always choose breathable clothes. These will help in air circulation and will not cut off the required airflow.

Care of your intimate area is equally important as the rest of your body. The skin of your groin area is perhaps the most sensitive. Good quality underwear is crafted keeping your skin in mind. Wear fresh and clean underwear and inner vests. Choose moisture-wicking and soft fabrics. These will keep your skin dry and healthy. Organic cotton and micromodal are good options.

Skincare is a vital part of grooming, as it boosts self-confidence too. Healthy skin is important for your appearance and overall health. Do not brush aside skin issues. Follow a healthy hygiene routine, and you will face no problems.
